On the evening of February 5, 1952, Father Aurelio and Father Costantino and Dr. Pio were in Padre Pio's room.
Sanguinetti, collaborator of the Father for the construction of the "Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza". Padre Pio was seated at a desk and the others on chairs next to him.
There was talk of this and that. The conversation had nothing of importance: the usual routine words about the day, the weather, the day's work.
At one point Padre Pio interrupted the conversation and said. “Let us pray for the King of England!”.
He didn't add anything else. He crossed his arms on the desk, rested his head on his arms and remained silent for a while.
The others looked into each other's eyes, wondering about the meaning of Padre Pio's words, who had abruptly introduced into the conversation a character far from the usual topics, from the local area and from the Catholic religion itself, even the King of England, head of the Anglican church.
The three, in order to obey Padre Pio who prayed, each prayed in their own way for the King of England, which for them was like thinking of a stranger. It ended like this that evening, without any of the three asking Padre Pio the reason for that somewhat impromptu request.
The explanation came the following morning when they learned from the radio and the newspapers that George VI, King of England had died.
This true episode about Saint Padre Pio, was narrated by Father Aurelio from Sant'Elia from Pianisi.
